The Chapter 2: I won't leave him behind is one of the 8 Chapters a player can play in the game BattleBlock Theater.

It takes place after Chapter 1, and shares its overworld with it.

Overworld[]

The Overworld in this Chapter is identical to that of the first one, as their entrances are in the same location; the Lobby is still in poor condition, with torn curtains, cobwebs, the ripped hole in the wall looking out to sea, etc.

Story[]

In the second Chapter's cutscene, it's revealed that The Player(s)'s performances in the various levels has the theater "bursting at the seams with excited patrons", with the earnings from the plays giving the theater more money to afford improvements, both to quality of life in the theater and to making the plays more dangerous and advanced.

The Narrator then ponders about Hatty, taking note of the fact he just sits motionlessly on the throne, looming all day, and that it seems like he has been forced by the cats to manage the place.

The Player(s) has (have) no choice but to continue on with their plays.

Gameplay[]

There are not many gameplay aspects revealed in this Chapter, and it's very similar to the first one in terms of level design.

But unlike Chapter 1, it challenges the player to think for themselves; this chapter presents many more puzzles, and less direct gameplay, as it introduces moving blocks around to get to desired parts of the level, or, as seen in 2-4, to allow a Ferdinand to move to the left so the player can get across water.

In 2-6 the Player is taught that moving blocks can be used to block out a laser block's zap and that they can be used as platforms.

There are more hazards now, such as spike blocks and cat guards who use weapons like the Acid Bubble.

As the player should already know the basics, they now need to learn about possible dangers moreso than controls.

Trivia[]

  • The horde of Guards shown in the Chapter's cutscene include the cat seen in the Level Editor menu.
  • The green mono-photographs of Guards in the Chapter's cutscene are also reused as a profile backround the Player can use for their account on Steam.
