Grab the Gold is one of the many Arena Challenges players can pick out to play and compete in. It revolves around collecting golden blocks dropped by the Golden whale.
The Golden whale, also simply known as the whale, is both a ingame entity and a character, appearing in the beginning cutscene, when the storm takes place, and later on in the final cutscene after Chapter 8: the Vault.
Gameplay Aspect: Grab the Gold[]
In Grab the Gold, there are two opposing sides which must compete over one another by collecting more gold blocks than their competitor; gold blocks are dropped by the Golden whale, which flies around the level cheerily.
After collecting one or more block of gold, a player can deposit it in the flying safe one piece at a time, which also roams round the level alongside the Golden whale. Whichever team has the most deposited gold blocks by the end of the round wins, the amount of gold blocks you are currently holding does not count for points until they are deposited.
Gold blocks are deposited by being near the vault, you don't need to directly click anything to put it in, you just have to be near it.
If a player gets hit by another player or their weapon, they lose a large sum of their gold blocks, or just one if they only have one at that moment. Dying also makes a player lose any golden blocks they are holding but haven't deposited, if the player drowns their gold blocks will scatter and fall into the water too, being lost permanently.
Gameplay Aspect: Golden Whale[]
Outside of it dropping the golden blocks and hovering around the level, it doesn't do much. Players cannot jump ontop of it or collide with it in general, and it is unfazed by attacks.
Golden Whale: Appearance[]
The Golden whale, as its name suggests, has a brilliant golden color and a reflective shining surface. Its underbelly is lined and a darker, amber color. It sparkles wherever it goes and always has a giant open smile on its face.
Trivia[]
- Although the inside of the Golden whales' mouth is often depicted to be brown, in the beginning cutscene it's pink.
- There were official Golden whale plushies planned by Behemoth, however their prototype design never made it onto the market outside of miniatures in the Chonku Chonku machines.
- The Golden whale also makes an appearance in Castle Crashers, as Hatty Hattington's splash attack. It drops exploding gold across the screen that harms enemies in its range.
