The Narrator is one of the main characters ingame alongside the Player, and narrates all the cutscenes alongside reacting to the players' actions throughout levels. He's voiced by Will Stamper, who co-wrote the game.

Personality[]

With a vastly ranging character, his reactions and speech are at times silly and snide, at times oddly affectionate and at times extremely melodramatic as though trying to fit the theatrics. His dialogue often has a air of sarcasm or scepticism, from lines such as "a fitting medal for your less than amazing performance!" when getting a B to "be careful; death kills people. It's science!" at the beginning of a event. He has a generally judgemental and ironic personality.

When a player finds a gem ingame, he may become ecstatic over it, with some lines ranging from "can i have that one?", "haha alright, another gem!", him yelling enthusiastically before loudly proclaiming "A GEM! YEA-HEA!" or "A GEM! WOAAAOH!".

Dialogue[]

The Narrator has multiple dialogue lines for multiple scenarios. He may say one of the following lines upon a level beginning:

  • "Shall we find some sparkly gems?"
  • "I would love to tell you where they put the gems, but i'm not gonna!"
  • "Never lose hope, i know I did!"
  • "Find the gems and put 'em in your pocket, then find the door and you can unlock it!"
  • "Find the gems to whisk you away from this horrible place!"
  • "I think you need to find some little sparkly gem-shaped freedom keys, wink-wink!"

Upon you completing a level, some of the lines include:

  • "Sigh..it's a good thing that’s over!"
  • "That wasn’t too bad, right?"
  • "You see, that wasn’t too bad!"
  • "Nicely done!"
  • "I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!"

Upon you getting an A, or A plus, he may say:

  • "The best score possible!"
  • "I hope the other prisoners are taking notes!"
  • "Couldn’t have done it better myself...well."
  • "A perfect run!"
  • "You're making me giddy!"
  • "Absolutely wonderful!"
  • "Here is your cereal box toy!"
  • "Fan-farting-tastic!"
  • "Yes, you're good, stop fishing for compliments..”
  • “You spicy little fart!”
  • "Yes, there's an A+, but don’t bother, It takes talent.."
  • "That A+ is so close that i can taste it, and it tastesss gooodddd!"
  • "Go for the A+, Go for it!"
  • "Almost an A+, almost!"
  • "Good show ‘ol bean!"
  • "Can’t complain, can’t complain."
  • "Awesome job!"
  • (Specifically only with an A) "You know there's an A+, right?"

Upon a B:

  • "You can always go back and find what you missed!"
  • "That’s okay, it’s a hard stage!"
  • "Oh, was it too hard? Was it too hard for you..? WAS IT? WAS IT TOO HARD?!"
  • "WHAT A PHENOMENAL PERFOR-oh, it’s a B.."
  • "A fitting medal, for your less than amazing performance.."
  • "I’ve seen better..but i’ve seen worse. But, but better too."

Upon a C:

  • "Hmm, you succeeded...in achieving the lowest score possible!"
  • "I try, and I try, and I try. C is bad! A is good! Why won’t you listen!"
  • "I remember a time when I was proud of you, but now i’m not. It’s funny how that works."
  • "Well, way to bore the crowd.."
  • "How...embarrassing.."
  • "Oh great! I tell my friends how talented you are, and you prove me wrong! Thank you. Thank you for that."
  • "Here’s your painted cardboard medal.."
  • "That’s great."

Trivia[]

  • There are two separate lines in which he sings about the Golden whale, both being from Grab the Gold.
  • He is often seen throughout cutscenes nearly swearing but then changing it to something like 'nonsense'. This could be a reference to the fact Will Stamper uses a large amount of profanity on Youtube.
  • In the settings, the volume of him is referred to as '"Quips". "Quips" are short, witty phrases that are often humor-related.
  • Dan Paladin stated that he originally meant for the Narrator to be Hatty recanting, but Stamper wasn't fond of the idea, and the Narrator became canonically unidentifiable in the end.
